Csaba Borboly has been a member of the Committee on the Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) and the Committee on Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC) for the past 7 years. Harghita County Council President receives another 5-year mandate as part of the Romanian delegation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee of the Regions (COR) was established in 1994 and enables local and regional authorities to take part in EU legislation, to exchange best practices and to engage in dialogue with the European institutions. COR aims to bring the EU institutions and decision-making closer to the people, reinforcing the culture of subsidiarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Csaba Borboly believes that COR membership is a huge opportunity in many ways. \"An opportunity to introduce ourselves to Europe, to show our values, our traditions, our culture, our built heritage, our language and the biocultural diversity we possess\".<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\"There were issues that the Committee of the Regions and a commission started to focus on because we were able to highlight its importance. Here's the situation of the large carnivores, for example: despite problems in other parts of Europe, the COR only started to deal with it after we kept pushing our bear-problems.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The president believes that this membership is also a good opportunity to have a word in decisions. 'Although the Committee of the Regions is a consultative body, it plays an important role in the direction in which certain EU decisions go, as it is the duty of the European Commission to consult us. This is very useful because people's problems are best known by our mayors, and we, the county council presidents. I think the Committee of the Regions is an important body because it is a bridge between the EU institutions and the people of Europe, 'he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Committee of the Regions organizes the European Week of Cities and Regions every year. It will be held in Brussels from 7th to 12th of September. Harghita County will be presented in three plenary panels: biocultural diversity, integrated territorial investments, and opportunities for cooperation for youth and spa projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with many of our valuable experts at the European Week of Regions and Cities, we represent Seklerland with \u00c1rp\u00e1d Antal, the mayor of Sepsiszentgy\u00f6rgy, but our MEPs, L\u00f3r\u00e1nt Vincze and Gyula Winkler will also take part in each panel. I believe that Transylvania will have a stronger voice in Europe if we can work together, if we combine our efforts both internationally and locally. COR is, in fact, another forum where we can make our voice heard over the next 5 years, \u201dsaid Csaba Borboly.<\/span><\/p>\n
