The co-organizers of this event were the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungarian Engineering Chamber and Hungarian group of FIB (International federation for structural concrete). Within the framework of the conference 51 presentations were held in four categories: railways-, road and bridge construction; architecture and building materials; ferroconcrete structure;\u00a0 steel structures; environment protection; building engineering; water management and hydraulics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the occasion of the plenary lectures, Mr. Attila Gergely presented the Sekler houses samples, which were designed by architects on behalf of Harghita County Council. The presented nine plans were elaborated within the county council\u2019s village care social programme. So far only one plan\u2019s technical documentation has been realized, the remaining eight are still waiting to be elaborated. Harghita County Council\u2019s goal is to maintain and preserve the traditional image of villages, and so encourages the construction of houses that fit into the landscape. To achieve this goal, the blueprints of the house samples are provided for free for all who are interested, as soon as the technical documentations have been worked out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event was opened by Mr. G\u00e1bor K\u00f6ll\u0151, president of HTSST. He expressed his appreciation for the fact that many young participants were present at the conference, so he hopes there will be new generations interested in the profession of architecture and civil engineering. He welcomed also the participants from Hungary and Slovakia. Mr. J\u00f3zsef M\u00e9csi, professor of the University of P\u00e9cs, in his speech said that \u00c9PKO is an outstanding technical conference, because besides the wide range of professional supply, the particular Hungarian culture is also reflected, the venue of\u00a0the event having a unique spirit as well. He also mentioned that \u201cnow when whole Europe is in crisis, the role lies in value protection at European level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the opening ceremony speeches were held by Mr. Gy\u00f6rgy L. Bal\u00e1zs, the president of FIB, Mr. Jen\u0151 Kontra, the president of Budapest University of Technology and Economics, as well as Mr. J\u00e1nos Tak\u00e1cs, professor of Slovak University of Technology, who also brought their own publications and handed to Mr. G\u00e1bor K\u00f6ll\u0151, president.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One day before the conference a study trip was organized for the attendants and presenters, visiting touristic destinations and beautiful landscapes in Transylvania.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Miercurea Ciuc, 16<sup>th<\/sup> of June 2013<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year the International Conference of Civil Engineering and Architecture was organized by Harghita County Council in collaboration with the Hungarian Technical Scientific Society of Transylvania (HTSST), on 15th of June in \u0218umuleu Ciuc, Harghita County.
