The participants of the INTERREG IVC Robinwood Plus project submitted their proposal package in Brussels to the European Commission presenting their views referring to forestry management, wood processing, and tourism in forest areas, biodiversity, and usage of biomass and in the field of environmental education. The outcomes and recommendations of the Robinwood Plus project were presented in the regional office of Limousin in Brussels.<\/p>\n
The Robinwood Plus project being an interregional cooperation project in the field of forest management was represented by 5 regional partners from Liguria (IT), Calabria (IT), Harghita (RO), Limousin (FR) and Kainuu (FI). Among the invited guests were the representatives from the Directorate-General for Agriculture & Rural Development - Bioenergy, Biomass, Forestry and Climatic Changes; Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry - Raw Materials, Metals, Minerals & Forest-based Industries Unit of the European Commission, East & North Finland EU Office, the Bruno Kessler - Renewable Energies Foundation, and the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union for food, veterinary and phytosanitary issues.<\/p>\n
Mr. Marc Horvath, from the Regional Council of Limousin welcomed the participants. He was followed by Mrs. Roberta Casapietra, project manager, who presented briefly the Robinwood Plus project. The outcomes and the recommendations of the project towards the European Commission in the field of participatory forest management were presented by each project partner. The proposals were categorized in 5 main themes: Forest planning and management, presented by Limousin Region; Biodiversity and Biomass presented by Kainuu Region; Tourism presented by Calabria\u00a0Region; Local wood-marketing and non-wood products presented by Harghita County Council; Environmental education presented by Liguria Region, who is the lead partner of the project.<\/p>\n
\u00a0The recommendation package will be finalized in the autumn based on the remarks of participants from the European Commission. (For those interested further information may be read at the website: www.robinwoodplus.eu).<\/p>\n
In addition, the main objective of the Robinwood Plus interregional project is the promotion of the multifunctional role of forests as engine for economic development, environment protection and improvement of quality of life in rural areas. The project officially started in January 2010 and will have a total duration of 48 months, up to December 2013. The total amount provided is \u20ac 3,063,463.56 Euros partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and co-financed by each participating partners.<\/p>\n
Besides the abovementioned, the Robinwood Plus<\/strong>\u00a0project aims at fostering the exchange of experiences between partner regions in order to stimulate and sustain economic and social development of rural areas through participatory and sustainable forest management.
