Between the period of 27th and 29th of November an official delegation of Harghita County Council had a meeting with the representative of the European Office of the National Union of County Councils of Romania in Brussels, discussing next year events aimed at promoting Seklerland. According to the plans, in 2014 an international conference will be organized with the topic of Sekler wooden carved gates, presenting Mrs. Piroska Kov\u00e1cs\u2019 devoted work for saving these gates. She is the leader of the K\u00f6lik Association in Satu Mare and winner of the Grand Prix of European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage\/Europa Nostra Awards 2012, the local wooden carved gates having by this means a great internationally recognized cultural vale. Following this event a Sekler wooden carved gate is planned to be placed in Brussels, the capital city of the European Union, which would be also linked to a fair of Sekler products. The events series have the main objective to promote the local culture and traditions of Seklerland on international level.<\/p>\n
Besides, during the meeting it was also discussed the possibility to participate in the Saint Catherine fair, organized every year in Brussels during December. Accordingly, the request related to this initiative, will be submitted next year, somewhere during spring. Seklerland\u2019s participation on this fair is important from the perspective of promoting local and traditional products on international level, as well as from the point of view of boosting local tourism in Harghita County.<\/p>\n
At the same time, in collaboration with the Balassi Institute, in the course of next year spring it is planned to organize the presentation of the book and manual entitled as the History of Seklerland. The book\u2019s target audience are students and also adults,\u00a0 and it is aimed at strenghtening regional identity by offering knowledge about the past of this local community. The publication of the book was supported by Covasna and Harghita County Councils and it is also planned to republish the book in Hungarian and in Romanian languages as well (Further information may be found here: https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SzekelyTankonyv<\/a>).<\/p>\n The official delegation of Harghita County Council also met Mr. Dacian Ciolo\u0219, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission. During this meeting, Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council and member of the Committee of the Regions presented the Sekler Product initiative as well as the milk processing factory in Cristuru-Secuiesc, which was purchased through the collaboration of more than 400 local farmers. Regarding these initiatives, it was mentioned that an informative material about the Sekler product trademark will be sent to the Commissioner, including also information concerning the planned activities oriented toward promoting\u00a0 local and traditional values.
