Csaba Borboly is one of the vice-presidents of the European Committee of the Regions. The EU Advisory Council, which represents local and regional authorities, is chaired by a President, a First Vice-President and 27 Vice-Presidents (one per Member State). On behalf of Romania, Csaba Borboly, President of the Harghita County Council, will be the Vice-President in the next period, who was also supported by the Romanian delegation. In addition, the Chair will continue to work in the Commission on Education (SEDEC) as the political coordinator of the Group of the European People's Party.
With the participation of a local politician in the Committee of the Regions, the public has the opportunity to express their views on EU decisions, an activity that brings decision-making closer to the people here, in Brussels.
- With this step, we are bringing Europe closer to Harghita County. Our proposal also will be brought to the table of decision-makers in Brussels that has not been addressed before. The vice-presidency is important because we can put on the agenda issues such as minority rights, the situation of indigenous minorities, petitions, a series of issues, and we need to talk more about them in the European Union institutions. These have so far been discussed only tangentially, but it is up to the presidency to put it on the agenda, and so we can have a direct say in the negotiation of these matters. I am proud that Harghita County is becoming better known in Brussels. I want to continue the work we started here in 2012. It was a fruitful, visible achievement, which we will further strengthen with today's appointments, whether it is about our youth or the environment, ”added the President of Harghita County Council.
The Committee of the Regions has so far adopted five reports prepared by the President of Harghita County Council as rapporteur on youth, education and the environment.
