Mr. Jean-Paul Denanot, president of Limousin Regional Council welcomed the participants of the event held on 26th and 27th of March 2013, which gathered experts, local and regional level elected representatives from the partner regions, beneficiaries of subprojects, forest-owners and their associations, companies and public authorities.
„Harghita County Council assists construction activities through the exploitation of local wood materials and this has a key role in the county development strategy”, affirmed Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council. In the opening of the conference he related about the county council initiatives, which assist young people, for example about the plan of building wooden houses from local raw materials, by combining traditional and modern energy efficient methodologies. “We plan to introduce these methods also in case of public buildings. Through the use of local raw materials, we offer solutions for social problems as well, therefore vocational training activities have to be oriented and linked to wood processing industries” – considers the president.
Discussions were continued by interventions related to EU wood policies and situation analyses presented by Mrs. Lovisa LILLIEHÖÖK, officer responsible for EU wood policies, on behalf of General Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development, and Mrs. Laura CANALE, head of European Affairs and International Relations Department.
Mrs. Roberta CASAPIETRA presented the Robinwood Plus project and the achievements in the framework of sub-projects.
During the international conference, thematic discussions were organised. Here participants talked about wood management, wood processing industry, tourism biodiversity, biomass utilization and eco-education. All discussed items will be submitted to the European Commission as a proposal.
Mr. István Becze, county councillor presented the Natura2000 project and assistance of biomass production. Mr. Tibor Bajkó, suggested that wood processing company representatives have to be linked to a quota based system in order to procure raw material at market price; the raw material exports for non-EU members have to be stopped; the secondary raw material exports have to be reduced with 50% for non- EU members and a legal system system has to be set up in order to settle the establishment of local or national wood protection fund.
