Progress project partner meeting held in Miercurea Ciuc

The Progress project partner meeting took place at the seat of Harghita County Council on 25th of June. The partners of the project entitled ’Young graduates and the social sector: developing new job opportunities’ were meeting in Harghita County in order to exchange their experiences, to get acquinted with job opportunities addressed to young graduates in Harghita County, and last but not least to familiarize with the social organizations’ activities on county and national levels.

The aim of the project is the analysis of young graduates’ situation and job opportunities in the social sector, as well as aiming the creation of new job opportunities and assistance for young graduates. Mr. Sándor Petres, the vice-president of Harghita County Council welcomed the participants and offered a short presentation on Harghita County. He mentioned that despite the county being among the biggest counties on national level from the point of view of the territory’s size, it is situated among the smallest ones as regards the number of the county’s inhabitants. As the vice-president affirmed “we try to use all the opportunities offered by the European Union, therefore we are participating in international projects in order to help young people to find jobs much easier. We hope that our experiences and good practices will be useful and we can relate about successful results at the beginning of the next year”.

Mrs. Anna Tombesi, the representative of the lead partner from Italy presented the objectives of the project, the obtained results and future plans. She claimed that “the European economic crisis requests for a stronger cooperation between young graduates and the social sector. First of all new services have to be established and this is an important task for the society. The young graduates, with high qualifications meet difficulties in job searching. Hence, our duty is to find some good solutions for this problem to be solved.”

Following this presentation a few practical examples were presented during the meeting.  Mr. Dr. András Márton, director of Department of Caritas Alba Iulia in Miercurea Ciuc presented the organization’s activity. As he mentioned it is one of the most developed social service providers in the area.  The organization established 23 years ago, offers permanent jobs for 560 employees in nine counties. The director said that they are actively participating in all European level programmes in their field of activity and besides assisting disabled people, elderly and ill persons; they also provide vocational trainings for those, who would like to work in the social sector.

Mrs. Erika Zonda, general director of the Programmes and Subordinated Institutions General Directorate of Harghita County Council, presented the village care social programme of the county council. This programme is the result of a successful trilateral cooperation among NGOs, Harghita County Council and Local Councils.

The participants of the meeting expressed their interest in the actual situation of HarghitaCounty and were interested to find out more about the activity of the county council and of its subordinated institutions. At the same time they were concerned about the economic and demographic situation of the country as well. In this regard the vice-president of the county council provided all the requested information for the participants.
