Harghita County Council promoted Seklerland with traditional Sekler products at the Committee of the Regions within the framework of this year’s edition of Inter-institutional Open Doors Day held on 4th of May 2013. Harghita County Council, along with Covasna County Council promoted Seklerland through the presentation of traditional Sekler Products. Previous to the European Day, the EU institutions organized the Open Doors Day offering the possibility for EU citizens to have an insight into the cultural diversity of Europe.

On 4th of May, the Committee of the Regions opened its doors for celebrating the festival of European regions and cities. At this year’s edition of the event more than 40 local and regional representations could promote and present their local values and cultural heritage, touristic attractions, as well as EU financed projects. From Romania Harghita County Council, Covasna County Council and North-East Regional Development Agency applied successfully to take part in the event. Seklerland was promoted at the event owned to the programme of the representative office in Brussels.

During the festival the stands of Seklerland were visited by more than two thousand people, Mr. Gyula Winkler, parliamentary representative in the European Parlament visited also these stands. Besides the Sekler pair from Harghita county wearing traditional Sekler costumes, Mr. Csaba Thamó and Mr. Tihamér Barti, county counsellors in the Committee for international relations of Harghita County Council were also present at the event, promoting the traditional products from Seklerland. Both of them considered the possibility of Harghita county’s participation on this outstanding event extraordinarily useful. Covasna County’s delegation was also accompanied by Mr. László Ödön Fejér parliamentary representative.

Mr. Csaba Borboly, the president of Harghita County Council, member of the Committee of the Regions affirmed that after the Hungarian Ball in Brussels the Sekler products enjoyed great popularity within the framework of this event also.

 According to the visitors’ and the organizers’ feedback the Seklerland stands were the event’s colour spot and were among the most visited stands during the event. The delegation from Harghita county offered for the large amount of visitors the possibility for tasting traditional and local products, such as home-made bread, sausage and salam, different types of cheese, honey, several kind of syrups and jams, colourful gingerbreads, all made by local producers. During the possibility of tasting the traditional products that were greatly appreciated by all visitors the Sekler pair and the county councillors provided the visitors with promoting materials mentioning and emphasizing some basic information about Harghita county, Seklerland and the traditional Sekler products.
