Sekler Products at the Hungarian Ball in Brussels

The Hungarian Ball in Brussels is among the most special events in Brussels, where in this year Seklerland was also present being promoted by the delegations from Harghita and Covasna counties. Mr. Csaba Sógor, member of the European Parliament invited Harghita and

Covasna County Councils for offering the possibility for promoting Sekler tradional products by delegations wearing Sekler traditional costumes at the Concert Noble event centre on 20th of April. From Mureș County Sekler hussars wearing traditional military costume, were also contributing to the outstanding event.

The ball organized for caritative purposes also was opened by Mr. János Áder, the president of the Hungarian Republic highlighting the exemplary value of the event. Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council participated the event, who consideres relevant Seklerland’s presence in the capital city of the European Union, as well as the widespread promotion of Sekler products on international level. Mr. Csaba Borboly who had the honor to be seated beside Mr. János Áder, took the opportunity to invite him to Seklerland. Mr. Csaba Borboly accentuated that „again it was proved that there is a widespread demand for the traditional Sekler products and we can be proud of our local producers since during a few hours all the products ranging from traditional Sekler brandy (called „pálinka”), sausage, salam, cheese, jams and syrups were altogether favoured by the invited people”. He also mentioned that the possibility to promote our values in Brussels means a lot for the Sekler people.

Mr. Sándor Tamás, the president of Covasna County Council claimed that „it is important to us to promote Seklerland as a unique region rich in historical events, gastronomic values and natural wonders. This is relevant not only from the perspective of attracting potential tourists but it is also important because of expressing our own identity. However most of all it is important to raise Europe’s attention to Seklerland as a unique and cultural spot of Europe.”

Both county council presidents expressed their gratitude to Mr. Csaba Sógor, Member of the European Parliament for this opportunity that made possible the presence of Seklerland at the charity ball.

 Owned to the arcFAM Association the income of the ball was offered for the Hunagrian Foundation called "No Child Should Go Hungry" („Minden gyerek lakjon jól”).
