Within the framework of Harghita County Council’s programme, entitled Representation and promotion to the institutions of the European Union, an official delegation of the county council promoted the local, traditional, cultural and touristic values of Harghita County at the European Parliament in Brussels, between 3-5th of December.
At the same time, the delegated persons took part in a meeting with the colleagues of the Romanian Cultural Institution in Brussels, in order to evaluate the possibilities to organize and to participate in art and photo exhibitions, dance spectacles, conferences and other cultural events in the future. Harghita County Council believes that it is important to organize and to take part in cultural programs and events, organized in collaboration with institutions in Brussels, since these are unique opportunities to bring Seklerland to the heart of European Union aiming the promotion of our cultural and traditional values on European and international level also.
Regarding the meeting, the colleague of the International Relations Department of Harghita County Council, Miss Éva Lukács declared that ‘the primary goal of the programme is to efficiently promote and introduce the Sekler Product trademark on international level since the extension of local products’ international market long termly contributes to the increase of local producers’ income, as well as to the creation of new jobs. Accordingly, in the course of the present year we have participated in several cultural events organized in Brussels, and within the light of results we plan to continue our promotional and partnership building related activities in 2014 as well. ’
Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council participated in the meeting of the Commission for Environment Protection, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) of the Committee of Regions, and with Mr. Csaba Sógor, Member of the European Parliament, took part in a meeting, where he had the occasion to discuss with Mr. Joseph Daul, the president of the European People's Party (EPP), Mr. Dorfmann Herbert, Italian MEP, Mrs. Edit Bauer and Mr. Alajos Mészáros, MEPs from Slovakia, Mrs. Danuta Maria Hübner, president of the Committee on Regional Development and last but not least with Mrs. Doris Pack, the president of the Committee on Culture and Education. At the discussion Mrs. Doris Pack told that in the near future she would visit Harghita County, because she believes that the county`s culture is part of the European cultural diversity.
