The Mountain and Cave Rescue Public Service of Harghita County Council reached the realization of its objective to efficiently handle and overcome cave accidents in Harghita County, by establishing a cave rescue team on the meeting organized at the mountain rescue base situated near the Killer Lake, on 30th of November.
There are several caves situated in Harghita County, and in the past time the number of those tourists, who ventured in more hidden and dangerous places, has been increased. Therefore, the possibility of accidents in this regard increased as well. Regarding previous cases, the mountain rescue team was always called, but due to the lack of proper training and techniques the rescuing process was dangerous for them also. As the leader of the public service, Mr. Örs Fekete declared, this problem is now dealt and resolved by the Mountain and Cave Rescue Public Service of Harghita County Council, by reaching the aim of training 15 cave rescue specialists.
Subsequent to the preliminary selection, organized during this summer, the newly established team is ready to face challenges for overcoming cave accidents and rescuing eventual victims. Trainers and the necessary equipment are available for the team, in this way having the possibility of acquiring the necessary basic knowledge within the field of cave rescue and also to be prepared for the first cave rescue school planned to start during spring of next year.
Mr. Tihamér Barti, county councilor was present at the abovementioned meeting, who congratulated and wished a lot of success for the new team, also expressing his hope that they will have to take part in more practicing trainings than real rescues. The county councilor assured them that Harghita County Council will support them and similar initiatives in the future as well.
After introducing the new team, the participants went to a local cave, where trainings were organized in a 40 meter deep labyrinthine passageway.
