Owing to the successful organization of the Sekler Product Agricultural Cooperative, on 25th of November the Sekler Products’ shop was opened. The cooperative was established in 2013 and its members are 16 associations and companies, as well as 5 individual entrepreneurs.
During the opening ceremony, the president of the cooperative, Mr. István Márton, director of the Rural Development Association of Harghita County Council welcomed the participants. He said that after overcoming several difficulties they could realize the launch of this shop, in order to offer the possibility for local producers to sell their local and traditional products. The cooperative offers the opportunity for those local producers also who have not yet acquired the legal use of the Sekler product trademark, with the condition to obtain this right till September of next year. According to Mr. István Márton, in the course of the upcoming months they will have the possibility to evaluate if this shop can be sustained. He also called the attention of local consumers and population about the importance of supporting local producers by purchasing locally produced, healthy and traditional products.
The Sekler Product trademark was registered by Harghita County Council, who supported the launch of the shop with promotion activities and counselling. Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council congratulated to the members of the cooperative and the colleagues of the Agricultural Chamber of Harghita County, subordinated institution of Harghita County Council. As the county council president claimed, there is need to take further steps for broadening the selling possibilities of local products, for which it is need to establish small slaughterhouses per regions, to change the consumer habits for having conscious consumers.
Harghita County Council will further offer help and support in promotion and information dissemination, authorizing processes and will advertise newer tenders as well in this regard. Furthermore, he expressed his hope that they will be able to do more for this issue since subsequent to the decentralization processes, the action sphere of the institution will be widened in the field of agriculture too. He declared that ‘the local fairs and product demonstrations in supermarkets, as well as the launch of this shop is a proof of the fact that there is a fruitful future of local producers in our region. We have to move forward and I truly hope that similar shops will be opened in more settlements and counties.’ According to him, every support manifested toward the issue of Sekler products and producers has in mind the aim of fostering the conscious, healthy consumption and the creation of new jobs. He considers that it is worth to process, produce and sell even in small lands, since by this means a supplementary income can be sustained, and even with time and hard work this may exceed the income resulting from full time job.
Mr. Attila Korodi, parliamentary representative and Mr. Barna Tánczos, senator were also attending the opening ceremony. Mr. Attila Korodi considered this day a celebration, as well as part of an experiment, since it will be soon revealed how the Sekler products can be brought to the large public. Mr. Barna Tánczos congratulated for the county council’s activity conducted and implemented within the field of offering support and help for local producers by emphasizing that the institution did all this by not having among its action spheres the field of agricultural support, which work has now visible results. In the senator’s opinion there may be a breakthrough if the same tastes and quality will be sold everywhere. Consumers and all interested people may visit and buy products from the abovementioned shop of traditional and local products in weekdays during 10.00 to 18.00 o’clock, as well as on every Saturday from 10.00 to 14.00 o’clock.
