Harghita county attended the Open Days of Europen Institutions for the fourth time on Saturday, the 28th of May.The Commision of Regions organizes the Open Days of the European Institutions in Brussels every May, where every institution of the European Union represents itself in front of the European, and Brussels audience. This event grants insight to the EU institution system, and into the local turistical, cultural and gastronomical values of the memberstates, regions and citys. This year, a total of 35 european region and city introduced themseves for those interested. Romania was being represented by Arad County and the Agency of Northeastern Regional Development, along with Hargita County by the way of the Harghita County Council.
The Harghita County delegation had the chance to popularize the natural, cultural and gastronomical values of our region. At the booth our colleagues wearing sekler folk costumes were able to present and review the touristical attractions of Harghita County, like the nature reserves, touristical opportunities for bikerides and rock climbing, the Pentecostal pilgrimage from Sumuleu, the Day of One Thousand Sekler Girl, Harghita Ski Region, and leisure opportunities.
At the booth, those interested had the chance to taste our local produce, syrups, jams, honeys, gingerbread, cheeses and sausage specialities, to be able to discover the unique flavours of Harghita County. Our visitors took a great joy in tasting the sekler products, and not only did they praise the movement behind it, but the taste as well. To set a good sekler mood, at the booth folk music was playing and touristical films were being shown.
A Manneken Pis statue dressed in sekler folk costume could be found on the Hargita County booth aswell, signaling to the visitors, that Harghita County is open, and welcoming to all guests from every region of Europe, with a rich touristical offer, quality service and products.
On this Open Day, colleagues from Harghita County Council had the chance to initiate partnerships with regards to tenders and international relations, due to the fact, that many regional representatives and twinned county were present, that have shown tendency, and were open to future collaborations with the county council.
The Harghita County Council takes active part in the events, programs and tender opportunities organized by the EU institutions, taking every advantage possible to present and promote the local values. Therefore since 2009 they organize a program called " The promotion and representation of Hargita County along EU istitutions”. Due to this event Hargita County is able to take part in different EU programs. Part of this is attending the Open Doors event, because on this day thousands of visitors can get to know the values and beauty of hargita County.
Csaba Borboly, president of the Hargita County Council declared the following : The office led by him, is one of the fortunate institutions, that have the chance to take advantage of such opportunities as the Open Day in Brussels, where they can bring forward the region for the European audiences, and so it is imperative to be present on all such events.
