Borboly Csaba, the president of Harghita County Council continued the consultation work for his opinion on the subject of European cooperation in the youth field (2010-2018). The rapporteur of the Committe of the Regions met politicians and experts in youth fields in Brusseles on 22nd October 2015.
He presented the main guidelines of the draft opinion, according to which he recommends the involvement of young people in public affairs, the embracement of their organizations, the examination of good experience regarding the right for voting at 16, provided by certain Member States’, the definition of EU youth basic package, as well as the examination of the new equal opportunities questions.
He moreover suggests developing a basic package that each Member State could guarantee for young people and that would focus on access to high speed internet, learning a second foreign language to the equivalent of at least B2 level within the public education system, career guidance and continuous mentoring, appropriate involvement in volunteering, promoting the right to a first job, and flexible and accessible forms of funding in order to carry out studies that offer career prospects.
During the meeting, the county president received positive feedback from the participants, particularly for the resettlement program for young people, the support for rural youth, and at the end everybody agreed that young people and their organizations should have a greater political appreciation and participation.
