Mr. Csaba Borboly’s amendments on environment were accepted by the Commission for Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) of the Committee of the Regions

At 2nd of September the ENVE Commission of the Committee of the Regions accepted three of Mr. Csaba Borboly’s amendments. The president of Harghita County Council, who is member of the European Union’s consulting body representing local and regional authorities, has supplemented with proposals the document entitled EU Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change and the Green Infrastructure – Enhancing Europe’s Natural Capital.

The first proposal is that the environmental mentality and trainings should be focused on climate change. According to Mr. Csaba Borboly, it’s important that local and regional government to take responsibility in the process of environmental education. In the document of environmental friendly infrastructure, the president of Harghita County Council urges to set up of forest owners’ association, without these the realization of some unified development plans are being hindered. Furthermore it would promote also the construction of public buildings as bio-sourced buildings, using wood as construction material.

At the same time, the ENVE Commission refused Mr. Csaba Borboly’s modifying amendment related to the Green Paper on a European Strategy on Plastic Waste in the Environment, which modified the draft opinion on emphasizing that the informative campaigns should be organized for the population in the field of waste management, mostly in those EU member states, where the directives in this regard are not respected.

- It is unfortunate that this is not important for my colleagues in the commission, however I will be still lobbying toward this proposal to be accepted – Mr Borboly said.

Mr. Csaba Borboly was elected as permanent member in the Committee of the Regions by the National Union of County Councils of Romania (UNCJR) on 13th of September 2012. Within UNCJR the county president is the vice president, and in the Committee of the Regions he is the member of the Commissions for the Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE) and for Education, Youth, Culture and Research (EDUC).
