International dog sled competition in Harghita County

Between the period of 11th and 12th of January an international dog sled competition was organized by Mr. Attila Kiss, parson, in collaboration with the Mountain and Cave Rescue Service of Harghita County Council, in the settlement of Ciumani. During the event, besides local competitors, Hungary and Bulgaria were also represented, among them the European champion, Mr. Tamás Hering being also competing.
Due to unforeseen snow conditions the competition had to be organized on a shorter race-course as it was planned initially; however this was not affecting the visitors’ interest, respectively the competitive spirit of the participants. In all 22 teams registered to the competition with 2, 4, 6 and 8 dogs.
Mr. Attila Kiss, the parson of Rodna village in Bistrița-Năsăud County (but born in Ciumani, Harghita County) claimed that he has planned to organize the competition long ago and found supporters in Harghita County for being able to cover the significant costs of the competition.
Mr. Csaba Borboly, president of Harghita County Council also came to the competition and said that they are supporting all kind of events which contribute to the increase of the touristic potential of Seklerland, at the same time expressing his pleasure for seeing that on the place of his childhood the possibilities to practice winters sports there, expands more and more.
