Resource efficiency in construction was the topic of the conference held in the city of Rakvere, Estonia on 26th November, where the president of Harghita County Council, Csaba Borboly participated representing the Committee of the Regions (CoR) as rapporteur on sustainable buildings.
At the conference the president of Harghita County Council explained that one of the most important aspects of sustainability is that the construction industry should be integrated in a single system. Furthermore the role of local and regional authorities in reducing environmental impact is a vital one as it is their responsibility to track the economic and environmental changes at local level, and change best practices on this topic. Also using traditional techniques and materials - such as wood – is a great opportunity for the construction sector in Europe, a necessary requirement being the knowledge transfer and cooperation, said the president of Harghita County Council.
